Founder's Story

I spent years in IT before I started Solid Base, and the same scene kept playing out in front of me.

A business owner sitting across from a technician, nodding politely while their eyes quietly glazed over somewhere around the third acronym. By minute four they were thinking about lunch. By minute six they were nodding at things they’d never agree to if they’d actually heard them. Approving an invoice they couldn’t really evaluate. Asking a question and getting an answer that somehow left them with more questions. These were smart, capable people who had poured their lives into building something real, and somewhere along the way, IT had become the one part of their company that made them feel small.

That stayed with me. Not because the technicians were bad people. Most of them weren’t. But the whole industry had quietly accepted that clients shouldn’t expect to understand their own technology. The jargon was a feature, not a bug. And the cost of that arrangement was being paid by the owner, in money, in time, and eventually in the outages and breaches and surprises that nobody had cared enough to warn them about.
